Biography

After receiving a B.A. in Psychology Research, Melanie built practical, in the field skills working as a retail entrepreneur, and creative freelance practitioner specializing in data management, service design and operations management. In 2016, she earned a Food Innovation certificate degree, from University of Messina, Sicily and shortly after worked as a “food systems” fellow with Extension Foundation (formerly eXtension). While working in her current role with the University of California Cooperative Extension, Melanie completed her Master of Arts in Social Innovation and Sustainability. Her thesis and final arts-based inquiry project includes a field guide blueprint for engaging residents and businesses in community food systems planning. The guide aims to increase local food production and local food consumption at the intersection of global food systems, community health and wellness.
