Vegetable Gardening Course Now Full
Registration is now closed for the next Growing Gardeners course Vegetable Gardening for Saturday, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 9am–12noon. We will be offering this course again in 2-3 months, so if you missed this time, you'll have another chance to sign up then. Also—check out the Course Handbook, which you can download! This live Zoom course is ideal for beginning gardeners. Lessons cover the basic principles of gardening; the August 2020 course covers the guidelines for East Contra Costa County’s unique growing conditions. Participants who complete the course by attending all 12 hours of instruction will become "UC-Certified Growing Gardeners in Vegetable Gardening." The Zoom course costs $40, which cover materials sent to you. To sign up, you must be a resident of Contra Costa County.
The Growing Gardeners Program provides garden education on topics of interest to gardeners in Contra Costa County. The Program offers in-depth learning opportunities without the extended hours required to earn UC Master Gardener Certification and without the volunteer requirement.
The Vegetable Gardening course is described below. It is designed for beginning gardeners.
Vegetable Gardening Course
The Growing Gardeners Vegetable Gardening course teaches the basic principles of gardening, and includes a lesson highlighting how to grow vegetables for home consumption. Topics include:

- Compost, Mulch & Fertilizer
- Practical Botany & Useful Tools
- How to Grow Vegetables
- How to Attract Pollinators
- Integrated Pest Management
