Join Mike Corby and John Fike to learn about the soil in your garden—and the teeming universe under your feet. The life in that soil is essential to the health of your plants. Mike and John debunk some commonly held beliefs about soil care, and share their knowledge of soil fundamentals and ways to build soil health. Experience a more successful garden by knowing how to properly care for your soil.
Both native Californians and seasoned Master Gardener volunteers, Mike and John are active in the Speakers Bureau, Ask a Master Gardener project, and training both new and experienced Master Gardener volunteers. They enjoy sharing their knowledge and interacting with the public. Get your questions ready!
After Mike Corby retired from Nestle-Dryers Ice Cream Company (30 years), he refocused his energy on gardening and teaching. He and his wife, Mary Jo, started the Calaveras County Master Gardener program. Lucky for us, a relocation brought them here to our Contra Costa Master Gardener program. Mike likes to grow both ornamentals and veggies—and must have the best soil in town.
Before becoming a master gardener, John Fike (Biology PhD) spent his career on the faculty at UCSF, studying the brain and its response to injury and cancer treatments. Now he keeps 150 Zinfandel vines at home, and lends his expertise to our demonstration garden in Walnut Creek.
Log on 15 minutes early if you have not used Zoom before. This is a public event with limited seats. Please cancel your reservation if you cannot attend.
