Learn the essentials of gardening with classroom instruction and hands-on activities. Classes will be held at Rivertown Demonstration Garden (formerly Mangini Garden) within the Contra Costa County Fairgrounds on four consecutive Saturdays, from 9 AM -12 PM, starting June 6, 2020.
The course teaches the basic principles of gardening, and includes a lesson highlighting how to grow vegetables for home consumption. Topics will include:
- Soil and Water Management
- Compost, Mulch & Fertilizer
- Practical Botany & Useful Tools
- How to Grow Vegetables
- How to Attract Pollinators
- Integrated Pest Management
Participants completing the course, by attending all 12 hours of instruction, will become UC-Certified Growing Gardeners in Vegetable Gardening. Please note that you must be at least 18 years old and a Contra Costa County resident to participate.
The cost for this course will be $65.00, non-refundable and payable (by credit card only) at the time of registration. Registration will open about 6-8 weeks before the class starts. Watch this space for more details.
Enter the Fairgrounds from West 10th Street, Antioch, between O and L Streets. As you head into the fairgrounds, before the roundabout, take the first right into the Fairgrounds Administration parking lot.
